Staff Report

South Jersey Glory Days’ 5 QUESTIONS has become a popular feature, and we’re kicking off our 2026 coverage with a pair of outstanding young ladies from Audubon High. The Green Wave are currently 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the Colonial Conference’s Patriot Division, one game behind Gateway Regional as the Gators topped the Wave, 45-43, last Friday.

Senior Emma Speyerer and Peyton Marrone have been leading the way, as Speyerer is averaging 13.2 points per game and has made 22 three-pointers in 11 games, while Marrone is leading the team in rebounds and steals and is second on the squad in assists. Both are also outstanding softball players, as they helped lead Audubon to 20 wins last year, including a sectional championship and a berth in the state championship game. Marrone, a third baseman and catcher, batted .368 with 25 RBIs and 23 runs scored, while Speyerer, the team’s center fielder, batted .467 with team highs of 43 hits and 45 runs scored to go along with 33 steals.

South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with the duo after a recent basketball win over Collingswood to get to know a little more about them.

Senior Emma Speyerer is one of the top athletes in Camden County as she’s the leading scorer on the Audubon girls basketball team and the leading hitter on the Green Wave’s softball squad. (South Jersey Glory Days photos/Sully)

Check out our 5 QUESTIONS with Audubon seniors Emma Speyerer and Peyton Marrone:

QUESTION: What has been the best part of your high school career?

SPEYERER: Probably winning the South Jersey championship for softball. That was definitely it.

MARRONE: That’s mine, too!

QUESTION: What advice would you give younger players about handling school work and athletics as they go through their careers?

SPEYERER: Just make sure that you have a balance. I had a little bit of an issue with that, so now I really know. You have to make sure that you are really focusing on your academics, because if not you can’t even play your sports, depending on how bad it gets. So you need to really focus on your academics before athletics.

MARRONE: I’d probably just say to make sure you’re putting school above your sports. Even though sports are important, your school work is going to get you farther in life than a sport will. That’s the biggest thing younger athletes need to know.

Like Speyerer, Peyton Marrone has been a huge part of Audubon’s success in both basketball and softball.

QUESTION: What pro athlete would you like to hang out with for a day?

SPEYERER: Shaq. (Shaquille O’Neal). He’s just funny. He was obviously an amazing basketball player but I just think he would be a funny guy.

MARRONE: Probably (U.S. Women’s National Team soccer star) Alex Morgan.

QUESTION: Promposals — cool, or overrated?

SPEYERER: Hmmm. If it’s in public, I wouldn’t want it. In front of a bunch of people? No. But if it’s just you and whoever is asking you, then that’s fine.

MARRONE: I think I’d have to say cool. As long as it’s something for you, and not just something pulled together. It has to be meaningful.

QUESTION: What would your coach say about you?

SPEYERER: Probably that I like to compete a lot and that I’m passionate.

MARRONE: Probably that I’m competitive and I tell it like it is. That’s probably what my coaches would say.
