Staff Report

Despite having an uncharacteristic five losses on its ledger, the Camden Catholic High field hockey team remains one of the best in the state. The Irish play a loaded schedule and are willing to play anybody, anywhere.

The Irish have surrendered just 25 goals in 18 games, and starting goalie Madelyn LaForm, a senior, has 76 saves in 15 games played this season. She has 208 career saves, including a career-high 115 as a junior. The Cherry Hill native leads Camden Catholic into a big Olympic Conference matchup at home against Cherokee on Tuesday. South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with her after the Irish’s recent 2-0 win over Clearview Regional in the inaugural South Jersey Tournament of Champions title game for a quick 5 QUESTIONS feature.

Get to know a little about LaForm here:

QUESTION 1

What is the most difficult part of field hockey to master?

LaFORM

As a goalie, probably my timing. When I go out to smother (a shot), I have to make sure I have enough distance to where I’m not going to take the girl out before I get to the ball.

QUESTION 2

Who is the best player you ever played with or against?

LaFORM

With, I’m going to say (2024 graduate) Emily Nicholls (218 career saves). She was incredible and I learned so much from her. Offensively, we have a lot of good players. I’ve played with so many great players, I feel like it would be unfair (to pick just one).

QUESTION 3

What did you like most about field hockey when you first started playing the sport?

LaFORM

I think I liked the adrenaline rush, the winning. I just liked having a team in front of me and being able to support them and play a big role.

QUESTION 4

What famous person would you like to meet, and why?

LaFORM

Right now, hockey player Luke Hughes (New Jersey Devils defenseman). I think he’s incredible. I’d like to meet him, he seems like a cool guy. Go Devils!

QUESTION 5

If you were starting your own high school, what color scheme would you pick for your sports teams?

LaFORM

I think maybe blue and gray.
