Staff Report

Alex Grossman scored 255 points during his basketball career at Eastern Regional High; 254 of them came this season. That’s right, Grossman scored just one point as a junior in nine appearances with the Vikings, but came on strong as a senior, averaging nearly nine points per game and better than four rebounds per game.

His efforts helped lead Eastern to a 24-6 record that included a second-place finish to sectional champion Cherry Hill East in the highly competitive Olympic Conference American Division, and the Vikings made it to the South Jersey Group 4 semifinals before falling to Lenape.

South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with Grossman after a midseason win over Camden Mastery to get to know a little more about one of the lynchpins of Eastern’s outstanding season.

Check out 5 QUESTIONS with Eastern Regional senior guard Alex Grossman:

QUESTION: What’s it like playing for coach Kevin Crawford?

ANSWER: It can be hard sometimes. He gets on you. He compliments you when you need to be complimented, but it’s rare. So you know that it’s deserved. He always tells us what we need to do, and that’s why we keep winning. He tells us what we need to do and we practice it every day. We’re not complacent.

QUESTION: What do you remember about the first time you ever suited up in a basketball uniform?

ANSWER: I was in second grade, probably about 7 or 8 years old when I first started recreation basketball. I think my mom put the jersey on for me. I was a big — I was always tall for my age — so when I put that jersey on it was a little small. I played inside because I was tall for that age, and I’ve loved basketball ever since.

QUESTION: If you could pick any NBA team to play for, who would it be, and why?

ANSWER: The hometown 76ers! I like having a good big man, like we have here in Joel Embiid. I love to watch the pick-and-roll with him.

QUESTION: What would be your dream car?

ANSWER: I’m a big car guy. In Italy, we visited the Lamborghini place and I’d love to have one of those Lamborghini Aventador.

QUESTION: Who has been the biggest influence in your life, and why?

ANSWER: I would say are my parents (Andrew and Melissa Grossman). I see how hard they work every day. I didn’t really take basketball seriously until about sophomore year and they said, ‘you either work hard or you don’t, and you get what you give.’ That’s been my biggest lesson. I put a lot of work in during my sophomore and junior years, and (senior year) we all reaped the benefits.
