Staff Report

South Jersey Glory Days’ 5 QUESTIONS feature is a series that gives our fans a quick insight into the personalities of some of the athletes we cover. At the end of April, Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with Gloucester High senior softball shortstop Ava Rodgers to ask her a few questions. Rodgers is a career .324 hitter with 55 runs scored and 65 RBIs as a four-year starter, and she’s one of the top defensive shortstops in South Jersey. She’s batting .500 in her last four games, and the Lions are now 10-4 heading into today’s game against West Deptford.

5 QUESTIONS with Gloucester senior shortstop Ava Rodgers:

QUESTION: What has it meant to you to represent this program and this school?

ANSWER: It’s awesome. Gloucester is a family, and to be a senior — especially on our softball team, because our softball team pretty much represents our school — it’s just a really good feeling.

QUESTION: Which of your teammates has the most fun on bus rides to away games?

ANSWER: Kaelyn Zearfoss has the most fun, or Kloi Tighe. Our group in the back, we have a good time.

QUESTION: If you were principal of Gloucester High for a day, what rule would you get rid of at your school?

ANSWER: The “no phones” rule! We’d be able to go on our phones, that no phones rule would be gone.

QUESTION: What is the best promposal you’ve ever seen?

ANSWER: On the football field, the football players were holding up the prom sign. She was in the stands and they were taking a picture, and she had no idea. She turned around and (the sign) was right there.

QUESTION: What would your best advice be to a current freshman?

ANSWER: Just keep going, and don’t let the pressure get to you. Just keep working hard, you’re going to get there. It goes by so fast.

WHAT’S NEXT: Gloucester hosts West Deptford today, then hosts St. Joseph Academy on Saturday night at 7.
