Staff Report
The Haddon Heights High baseball team is off to a great start this year, as the Garnets won six of their first seven games — their only loss coming on the road at Collingswood. Heights came into this week having ripped off four straight wins, and a big key to the Garnets’ strong start has been the play and leadership of their seniors.
One guy who has stood out has been senior Jaxon Motta, a 6-foot, 175-pound outfielder who is hitting a torrid .423 and is tied with Cole Simon for the team lead in hits (11) and RBIs (9). He also has six runs scored, three doubles and five stolen bases as one of the key cogs for an offense that is hitting .322 and scored 57 runs in its first seven games.
Motta had a career-high 21 hits and 22 RBIs as a junior, and is on pace to surpass those numbers in his final campaign. South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with Motta after an early season win over Sterling for a 5 Questions feature.
Check out our 5 QUESTIONS with Haddon Heights senior outfielder Jaxon Motta:
QUESTION: What Major League Baseball team would you want to play for based on uniforms/stadium/overall vibe?
MOTTA: I really like the Toronto Blue Jays. I love the blue, the powder blue uniforms — it seems like a fun environment.
QUESTION: How would you rate yourself as a Little Leaguer?
MOTTA: I hit some bombs in Little League! I’d give myself an 8 (out of 10). I loved Little League.
QUESTION: If you were starting a high school baseball team, which of your teammates would be your top pick, and why?
MOTTA: Definitely Kevin (Clark, senior catcher). I love when me and him hit bak-to-back and we’re seeing the ball well. He’s been my boy since Day One.
QUESTION: What’s a place you’ve been to that you would definitely go back to?
MOTTA: Florida. We recently went to Disney for our senior trip, and that was amazing. Definitely Disney.
QUESTION: What are you going to miss most about high school baseball once you graduate?
MOTTA: I’m definitely going to miss this team, this environment, this program that we run. It’s unbelievable.
