Staff Report

Sarah Griffiths is the second-leading scorer for the Hammonton High girls basketball team, averaging 12.2 points per game, and she also is second on the team in rebounds with 88. She has a team-high 45 blocked shots and has added 36 steals for a team that has raced out to a 13-0 start. More importantly, she’s provided strong leadership as the only senior on a team full of juniors and sophomores.

South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with Griffiths after the Blue Devils’ thrilling overtime win over Atlantic City last week.

Check out our 5 QUESTIONS with Hammonton senior basketball standout Sarah Griffiths:

QUESTION: What do you like best about this team?

GRIFFITHS: Honestly, the fact that I’ve grown up with these girls. I moved from Winslow during my elementary school days and I’ve played with pretty much this entire starting lineup that whole time, except for my freshman year (when they were in seventh and eighth grade). I’ve known these people since we were young, and having them around me at all times creates a different type of connection than just teammates.

QUESTION: If you were principal for a day, what rule would you change or implement?

GRIFFITHS: When people are late to class, I feel like it’s because there are too many people in the hallways. I can’t get to class half the time, so I feel like we should get five minutes instead of three minutes. That would be my big rule!

QUESTION: Which of your teammates is the hype person in the locker room?

GRIFFITHS: All of us, honestly! I guess it’s me, I don’t know, but I feel like we’re all hyped with each other. Once one person starts yelling everyone starts yelling. We don’t even know what we’re yelling at.

QUESTION: What is the coolest place to hang out in Hammonton?

GRIFFITHS: DiDonato’s (Family Fun Center) has some banger milkshakes! And Royal Crown (Homemade Ice Cream and Grille), when it’s open, is actually the best thing. I’ll drive there just to get a milkshake.

QUESTION: Two plane tickets to anywhere in the world, who are you taking and where are you going?

GRIFFITHS: This is corny, but probably my boyfriend because he’s my biggest supporter and he’s always with me. Maybe somewhere in Europe, but I also love the Bahamas. I went there once and it was amazing, so probably the Bahamas!

WHAT’S NEXT: Hammonton is schedule to travel to Vineland on Monday at 6 p.m., weather permitting. If that game gets canceled, the Blue Devils will be home on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Millville.
