Staff Report

The Holy Cross Prep girls soccer team has had a solid season so far, posting a 10-6 record heading into the final week of the regular season. The Lancers travel to Our Lady of Mercy Academy on Tuesday, then hit the road for a matchup at Moorestown Friends to finish out the regular season before the Non-Public state playoffs kick off.

South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with seniors Gianna Benson, of Cherry Hill, and Ava DeFulvio, of Burlington Township, after a win over Sterling in September for a quick 5 QUESTIONS feature. DeFulvio is one of the top scorers in South Jersey with 26 goals this season, while Benson has been a key piece in the midfield for coach Sergio Torres.

Check out our 5Q with two of the top players in the Holy Cross program the past couple of years.

QUESTION: Where is the coolest place you’ve ever been to?

BENSON: Puerto Rico. It was cool to see the culture and the UV rays were nice. It was just a great trip.

DeFULVIO: Probably Venice, Italy. The scenery there is beautiful, and it was nice to see where my family came from.

QUESTION: How many days could you go without looking at your phone if somebody gave you $100 a day not to do it?

BENSON: Maybe a day!

DeFULVIO: I’m also going to go with a day.

QUESTION: If you were president, which celebrity would you want as your vice president?

BENSON: Oh, my gosh! I want to say Adele.

DeFULVIO: I’m going to go with Taylor Swift because I like her music.

QUESTION: Who has the coolest nickname on your team?

BENSON: Ava. It’s ‘The Chicken.’

DeFULVIO: I’d have go with me, The Chicken. When I was little I had a little defect in my legs, so when I was learning how to walk I walked like a chicken. And my mom would be like, ‘oh, my goodness, that’s my little chicken.’ And my parents’ friends stuck with it, and I cannot get rid of it.

QUESTION: What gets you the most stressed about high school?

BENSON: Definitely soccer season because it’s such a grind. You’re going to school all day then you have games to play.
