Staff Report

(Editor’s Note: Throughout the school year South Jersey Glory Days will be giving fans a quick insight into the lives of area athletes with our segment called “5 Questions” where we ask student-athletes a few random questions about the sports they play, their lives, pop culture or anything else that pops into our heads!)

The St. Joseph Academy softball team has gotten off to a 6-2 start, as the Wildcats are in a hotly contested Cape-Atlantic League American Conference race with Vineland and Ocean City. The Wildcats have won two straight, beating Ocean City and Absegami by a combined 17-1 score.

A big reason for the Wildcats’ success has been the play of the left side of the infield, senior third baseman Abby Willis and fellow senior, shortstop Brooke Tyndale. They have both been playing solid defense and have contributed a combined eight hits, 10 runs, 13 RBIs and 11 walks.

Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with both players following a 10-1 win over Ocean City earlier this week to get to know them a little bit.

Check out our 5 QUESTIONS with Brooke Tyndale, of Winslow, and Monroeville resident Abby Willis:

QUESTION: Which teammate brings the most energy on game day?

TYNDALE: Probably Abby! Before the game she’s jumping around, screaming. Definitely Abby.

WILLIS: I’m going say Riley Hunter. Especially during pregame, she’s the catcher who’s going crazy yelling.

QUESTION: What does coach Les Olson get on your case most about during practice?

TYNDALE: Swinging at high pitches, and not hustling, usually.

WILLIS: Definitely not hustling. And getting our gloves down when we’re fielding. He’s always on us about that.

QUESTION: Who was your middle school celebrity crush?

TYNDALE: Probably Zac Efron. I’m sure everybody says that.

WILLIS: I’m going to say (actor and singler) Ross Lynch. He’s like that blonde surfer boy.

QUESTION: How stressed do you get before a big test, and what do you do to manage that stress?

TYNDALE: It depends what subject. If I’m confident, I’m not very stressed. But in English, I get so stressed out, but I just try to calm myself down. I try to just look over my notes and just calm down a little.

WILLIS: I’m usually stressed over all my classes. I need to get on my studying. I just pull out my notebook five minutes before the test and that’s how I calm myself down.

QUESTION: On a scale of 1 to 10, how scared would you be to go skydiving?

TYNDALE: Oh, a 10! I’m so scared of heights. I would never do that. I hate the feeling of falling.

WILLIS: A zero! That’s on my bucket list. Skydiving, bungee jumping, I’m all four it.
