Staff Report
The Sterling High girls lacrosse team has gotten off to a 3-0 start this season, and with an infusion of young talent the Silver Knights are setting their sights on a sectional championship. In order to be competitive later in the season they’ll have to get some great senior leadership, and that starts with Addison Meyers and Emily Wright.
So far, the pair has contributed four goals and three assists through wins over Middle Township, Our Lady of Mercy Academy and St. Joseph Academy, and they’ve helped the offense produce an eye-popping 52 goals in just three games.
South Jersey Glory Days Staff Writer Dave O’Sullivan caught up with the duo after a 15-6 season-opening win over Middle to get to know a little more about the Silver Knights’ upperclassmen.
Check out our 5 Questions feature with Sterling’s Addison Meyers and Emily Wright:

QUESTION: What is your favorite thing about lacrosse?
MEYERS: For me, it’s just the warm weather and the vibes are always so high. Yes, we take it seriously, but I feel like it’s more fun. I really appreciate how coach (Michelle) Claybourn makes it fun.
WRIGHT: My favorite thing is the teammates and friends you make along the way. I have classes with most of these people, and I probably wouldn’t even talk to them if we weren’t on the lacrosse team together. This is how you form friendships that last for awhile.
QUESTION: What do you want to be able to say this team accomplished by the end of the season?
MEYERS: I really feel confident that we can win the conference. I’m very thankful for the freshmen who came in. We’re just connecting so well.
WRIGHT: I definitely want to win the conference, but I want us to be working together to win it. I want to see all the freshmen get touches and accomplish our goals together.

QUESTION: What do you do that annoys coach Claybourn the most?
MEYERS: Everything! I think sometimes I have difficulty with taking things seriously because I always want to have fun. She knows that, but sometimes I’m too much of a goofball.
WRIGHT: I think complaining about running a lot really annoys her. We all know we have to do it, we just don’t want to. Sometimes we complain a little too much and she gets annoyed.
QUESTION: What will you do the first day after graduation?
MEYERS: Probably sleep! I’ll probably go down the shore.
WRIGHT: I’m sleeping! If I’m up in time, I’m going to the beach.
QUESTION: Here is your chance to give a shout out to our 15,000-plus social media followers. Who are you shouting out, and what’s your message?
MEYERS: I will shout out our amazing defender, Maddy Sims. She has about 800 saves (796 in her four-year varsity career) in soccer as a goalie and she’s committed to Temple to play Division I soccer this fall.
WRIGHT: I’m shouting out Caity Claybourn because this was her first varsity game and she scored double what everyone else did. She has some crazy shots that are insane and go in because she’s just that good.
WHAT’S NEXT: Sterling is on the road today at 3:45 p.m. at Cherry Hill East, the first of three straight road games in the next seven days.
