Staff Report

If you’re a high school baseball fan, get ready for a great weekend of action in Margate!

The 13 th Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic — originally started by then-Millville assistant coach Mike Edwards, who brought the showcase to Mainland Regional High in recent years — shifts to the Jerome Avenue field in Margate this year and will be known as the “Downbeach CVC.”

The Classic kicks off today and runs through Sunday, with a massive 17-game schedule that features some of the best teams in the state, including current No. 1 in the nj.com Top 20 poll, Gloucester Catholic. It also features some of the Cape-Atlantic League’s best, including Holy Spirit, Hammonton, Cedar Creek, St. Augustine Prep, Mainland, Absegami, Vineland and Ocean City, as well as the time-honored rivalry featuring Atlantic City vs. Bridgeton, which kicks off today at 4 p.m.

The showcase also features some of the best teams from the western part of South Jersey, including Delsea Regional, Kingsway, Shawnee, Clearview, Moorestown, Cherry Hill West, Paul VI and Bishop Eustace. In addition, a couple of state powers clash on Sunday with Christian Brothers Academy matched up against Jackson Memorial.
