Staff Report
The nights are starting to get a little bit cooler, and that means the high school football action is just beginning to heat up! This week features some epic showdowns of teams in the South Jersey Glory Days/South Jersey Football Frenzy Show Best 11 Rankings, including No. 1 Millville hosting No. 2 Winslow for bragging rights as the best team in the West Jersey Football League.
Check out the latest rankings put together by Football Frenzy Show hosts Mark Trible and coach Mac:
11) Atlantic City (2-2): The Vikings have shaken off a slow start and come alive the past two weeks, blanking Cedar Creek 42-0 before getting past Ocean City, 21-14, on the road last Friday night. They can make a big statement this week against No. 8 Cherokee. Watch out for Peaky Roseborough; the basketball star has passed for more than 600 yards and rushed for another 300-plus while accounting for 12 touchdowns.
10) Willingboro (4-0): The Chimeras have quietly put together one of the best seasons in South Jersey so far, as they have beaten some pretty good teams in Camden Eastside, Haddonfield and Gloucester. Former Winslow coach Kenny Scott has his offense clicking, as the Boro has amassed more than 1,200 yards already while scoring 15 touchdowns.
9) Glassboro (3-0): This team has been cruising so far, and will only get better once Hammonton transfer and all-state running back Kenny Smith becomes eligible. If the Bulldogs set their mind to it and play up to their potential, they have a legit shot at an undefeated regular season. Amari and Xavier Sabb are getting some big-time college looks.
8) Cherokee (2-2): The Chiefs have run into some seriously tough competition the past two weeks, losing to No. 3 St. Augustine Prep and No. 4 Mainland, so they’ll have to respond quickly if they want to remain in the Best 11 rankings. They’ll have a chance to make a statement on Friday night at Atlantic City.
7) Camden (3-1): The Panthers look to rebound from their first loss, but they have a bit of a tough stretch coming up as they host Rancocas Valley this week before going on the road to take on Winslow on Oct. 4.
6) Washington Township (3-1): The Minutemen got punched in the mouth a little bit by Millville last weekend (OK, who hasn’t this year?). We’ll see how they respond as they host Williamstown on Friday night to close out the September slate. Township was held to just 54 rushing yards by Millville, but expect that number to be higher this week.
5) Holy Spirit (3-1): Sparty is starting to establish itself as the team to beat in the West Jersey Football League Constitution Division, which also houses Atlantic City, Cedar Creek, Ocean City and Hammonton. Spirit did enough offensively to get past No. 7 Camden last week and host Cedar Creek in a big divisional matchup on Friday night.

4) Mainland (3-1): The return of QB John Franchini’s favorite target, junior wideout Jake Blum, proved huge for the Stangs last weekend as they took care of No. 8 Cherokee, 31-0, in a pretty convincing home victory.
3) St. Augustine Prep (3-1): The Hermits suffered their first loss of the season last weekend, against Winslow, but the Hermits can’t lick their wounds too long as No. 4 Mainland comes to Richland on Friday night for another big tilt.
2) Winslow (4-0): The West Jersey Football League’s American Division features all five teams ranked in the Best 11. Winslow has been on cruise control since a little bit of a shaky start against Monclair at the Battle at the Beach, outscoring its last three opponents 116-21.
- Millville (4-0): The Bolts just keep on rolling as they took down Washington Township last Friday. Jamal Wallace stole the show with 116 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Millville will get one of its biggest tests of the season when it hosts No. 2 Winslow on Friday at 6 p.m.
