Staff Report
Elijah Crispin became the 109th player in New Jersey state history to score 2,000 career points when the Pitman senior reached the mark on a signature Crispin layup in the second quarter against Salem Tech on Monday night.
He joins his father Joe — a 1997 graduate who scored 2,651 points for the Panthers and is Gloucester County’s all-time scoring leader — and uncle Jon, a 1999 Pitman graduate who scored 2,319 points, good for fourth on the county’s all-time list.
Joe Crispin went undrafted by the NBA in 2001 after a collegiate career at Penn State, but played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns during the 2001-2002 season.
Elijah Crispin has led the Panthers to 18 wins so far this season, scoring 673 points, good for 28 points per game. He scored 399 points as a freshman and 340 as a sophomore, but really upped his game last year by scoring 575. He also has more than 500 assists to go along with 442 rebounds and 204 steals in 100 career games.
Crispin and the Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when they host Wildwood in the opening round of the South Jersey Group 1 tournament.
