It’s tough trying to make a name for yourself when you have an older brother who has had a ton of success before you.
But Dylan Salsbery, younger brother of former Egg Harbor Township High baseball star Jay Salsbery, certainly carved out his own identity during the last two varsity seasons of his career. This season, he hit .378 with 34 hits, 22 RBIs, five doubles, 17 walks, 41 runs scored and an almost unbelievable 50 stolen bases, setting a single-season school record.
The brothers had nearly identical stats, but Dylan had one less varsity season, which makes what he did the last two years that much more impressive. For his career, Dylan finished with a .338 average, 53 hits, 65 runs, 33 RBIs, 32 walks, 10 doubles and 61 stolen bases. This past season, he had five steals in a game twice, and had at least three on seven other occasions.
Behind Salsbery’s exploits on offense and his leadership in the infield from his position at third base, Egg Harbor won 16 games and made it to the state playoffs as well as the championship game of the Cape-Atlantic League Tournament.
Salsbery also played football last fall, where he had 37 tackles as a defensive back, and also played basketball during his high school career.
