Staff Report
Typically, a state-championship-winning high school football team has that one guy. That one guy who can do it all — run the ball, be a threat as a receiver, play defense, be a factor in the return game. It’s hard to be a great football team at the high school level without a guy like that.
For the Cedar Creek Pirates in 2025, that guy was Jahmir Campfield, a 6-foot, 185-pound super athlete who made a huge impact on a team that went 12-2, including 5-0 in the state playoffs, scoring 34-or-more points in four of those five games.
Campfield was at the center of it all during that playoff run. In a wild 34-28 win over Mainland Regional in the sectional final, he had seven rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown to go along with five catches for 95 yards and a score as a receiver, and in the state championship victory over Old Tappan, Campfield rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown and added 36 receiving yards. On defense, he had five tackles and an interception as the Pirates rolled to a 34-7 victory and the first overall state championship in school history.
Campfield had just 14 rushing yards heading into his senior season, but broke out with 490 and eight touchdowns as a senior, and as a receiver he had 857 yards and 11 touchdowns, finishing his career with 1,547 yards and 19 scores on 81 catches. He was also a very skilled defensive back, registering 112 tackles and six interceptions during his career.
