Staff Report

Sofia Vitiello stepped up to the plate big-time during her senior year with the Atlantic Tech softball team. Or, rather, stepped up behind it.

Vitiello did a tremendous job as one of the top catchers in the Cape-Atlantic League, and she improved by leaps and bounds with the bat for the RedHawks.

During her first two varsity seasons, Vitiello struggled offensively, but in her final season she put it all together and became one of the best hitters on the team. She racked up 26 hits — more than her first two years combined — and hit .382 with four doubles, a triple, 21 runs scored and 12 RBIs.

Vitiello also had multiple hits in eight of ACIT’s 25 games, including a 5-for-5, three-RBI performance in a win over Pilgrim Academy, the best offensive game of her career.

Coach Ryan Staiger is going to have a difficult time replacing all that Vitiello brought to the table, both as a hitter and game manager behind the plate.
