Games to Watch:
TUESDAY, 4/7:
Mainland @ Ocean City, 4 p.m.
Ocean City will look to get in the win column for the first time this spring after opening the season on a five-game skid. Mainland looks to snap a two-game losing streak.
THURSDAY, 4/9:
No. 5 GCIT @ No. 2 Williamstown, 10 a.m.
On a three-game winning streak since opening with a loss to No. 3 Kingsway, GCIT will be put to the test with a tough matchup against No. 2 Williamstown. The Braves will look to keep their undefeated start alive.
Top 5 WJFL MVP candidates:
Adrianna “Cookie” Clark, Mastery Camden:
The freshman quarterback has accounted for 14 touchdowns through the air and five more on the ground for the undefeated defending WJFL champions.
Naomi Lines, Kingsway:
The rookie leads the conference with 926 passing yards, throwing for nine touchdowns to six interceptions for Kingsway.
Arianna Clark, Mastery Camden:
The 2x reigning WJFL Most Valuable Player, the senior hybrid has a league-high eight touchdown receptions, all from her younger sister, Adrianna. Clark also has run for a score and has executed five 1-pt conversions this spring.
Lola Gittinger, GCIT:
Gittinger was impressive as a rookie last year and has since taken her game to another level this spring as GCIT’s top weapon on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The sophomore receiver has reeled in 30 receptions for 219 yards and three touchdowns — all team-highs for the Cheetahs. Defensively, she has 16 flag pulls and a team-high five interceptions through four contests.
Milana Riccardi, Williamstown:
Another star freshman who has put South Jersey on notice, Riccardi has accounted for 15 total touchdowns — five through the air and 10 on the ground — as Williamstown’s dual-threat quarterback. Riccardi led the Braves in scoring while starting on the hardwood under head girls basketball coach Jaime Land this past winter. Now she has seemingly transferred her talents directly over for the spring season.
