GLASSBORO—- Amari Sabb has chosen his landing spot.

The star Glassboro High football receiver announced Tuesday night that he plans to take his talents to the University of Alabama next fall, joining forces with his older brother, Keon, a rising senior defensive back for the Crimson Tide.

Sabb made the decision in front of family and friends at Chickie’s and Pete’s on the campus of Rowan University in Glassboro.

“It was a very tough decision. In all the years leading up and all the coaches I talked to, this felt like the best situation, even though it was a tough decision,” Sabb said. “It all just came down to what felt best for me. (Alabama) has a rich program history. The receivers there are always good. Their offense, their passing game — it fits my play style.”

Sabb recorded 53 receptions for 916 yards and 12 touchdowns and had 823 yards and 14 scores on 65 attempts on the ground, capping off his senior season with a second straight Group 1 state title for Glassboro. The Bulldogs didn’t lose a game in Sabb’s final two seasons, finishing with a 27-0 record during that span.

“It’s major, not only for South Jersey, but for Group 1,” Glassboro coach Timmy Breaker said. “They speak on how small Group 1 schools are, but I believe talent is talent, and you can find it anywhere in South Jersey. No matter if it’s Group 1 or Group 5, there are great players in all of them.”

Alabama is getting more than just a star player. Off the field, Sabb is one of the best leaders Breaker said he’s had the pleasure of coaching.

“He’s one of the best kids you can possibly coach. Alabama is getting a great kid in their program. He’s very charismatic, a high character kid and the hardest working person in the room every chance he can possibly get,” Breaker said. “He loves football. You see him on the field, he’s the Energizer bunny. We get him to do everything, but it’s more about off the field and the leadership he has naturally. He’s a natural born leader. He’s one of those guys that brightens every room he walks in.

“He’s a selfless guy, and, honestly, he’s worked for this. It’s been so special.”

Having the opportunity to play with his older brother was one Sabb couldn’t pass up, he said, and he may not be the last one who will be heading to Tuscaloosa. The youngest of the three brothers, Xavier, will be entering his senior campaign at Glassboro in the fall and has yet to make a commitment decision.

“(Keon) was pushing it,” Amari said of his older brother trying to recruit him. “He never got to play with us. He’s always jealous of Xavier and I getting to play together. To be getting the chance to play with my older brother is something special.”

Sabb will also be joining 2025 Millville graduate Lotzeir Brooks, who recorded 32 receptions for 441 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman with the Crimson Tide this past season. During his four-year high school career, Brooks finished with 4,615 receiving yards and a state-record 67 touchdown receptions.

“Two Jersey representatives at a big-time school like that, it’s big for the state, so I’m looking forward to doing that,” said Sabb, who also said he hasn’t gotten the chance to speak with Brooks yet.

Sabb said he has one goal in mind as for what he’s looking to accomplish with the Crimson Tide.

“I want to win a national championship at Alabama, that’s the plan.”
