Staff Report

There’s a new player who’ll be listed on Holy Spirit High’s girls basketball all-time leading scorer list, as senior guard Sabrina Little became No. 1 in Spartans history with her first bucket on Monday night in an eventual 56-40 loss to Egg Harbor Township in a Cape-Atlantic League American Conference matchup.

Little came tantalizingly close to breaking Jen Daniels’ record of 1,389 points, set in 2001, last week at home during a win over Atlantic City. She came into that game needing 10 points to set the record, but the Vikings were able to hold Little to eight points in Spirit’s 50-33 victory. Chelsi Johnson (2007) is the only other Spartans girl to reach at least 1,300 points.

At Egg Harbor Township on Monday night — against her hometown Eagles — Little scored in the first quarter to get to 1,390 career points. She scored 16 in the game and now has 1,404 points heading into the CAL Tournament first round against Vineland on Wednesday night.

Little has scored 389 points so far this season, an average of nearly 17 points per game, and for her career the 5-foot-6 guard averages 14.3 points per game. She’s also closing in on 200 rebounds and 200 steals, and has made 110 three-pointers in four years.
