Noteworthy Game Results:
Pleasantville 18, Absegami 18.
Absegami overcame an early 12-0 deficit to draw a tie with Pleasantville on Tuesday in Pleasantville. Both squads have yet to be defeated this season.
Washington Township 19, Delsea 0.
It hasn’t been the ideal start that Washington Township hoped for, as the Minutemaids began the season 0-2 after finishing 7-1 last season as one of the best teams in the league. But Township inched in the right direction with a shutout road victory over Delsea on Wednesday.
A first-year starter at quarterback, Alaina Lamonica — a standout guard on the Township girls basketball team — completed 18-of-22 passes for two touchdowns and an interception. Defensively, Addison Demski recorded three flag pulls and an interception.
Kingsway 41, Williamstown 0.
Kingsway proved why it’s still the top team in the region with a road triumph over Williamstown on Thursday. A first-year program under coach Jamie Land, who also serves as the head girls basketball coach at the school, Williamstown picked up a huge season-opening victory over Washington Township on March 27.
The Braves, however, were just no match for the defending WJFL champions. Kingsway quarterback Ava Valente scored seven touchdowns in the win, four through the air and three on the ground.
Middle Township 12, Millville 6.
After suffering setbacks to Cape May Tech and Cedar Creek in its first two games of the season, the Panthers captured their first win under first-year coach Frank Riggitano with a 12-6 victory over Millville on Thursday.
Trenton 21, Ewing 14.
Trenton has yet to be defeated in its first year as a program. The Tornadoes earned an impressive 21-14 victory over Ewing, which only had one loss to its name last spring, on Wednesday.
Games to Watch:
MONDAY:
No. 2 Mastery Camden @ No. 1 Kingsway, 4 p.m.
Expect this one to be a thriller between the top two teams in South Jersey. This is a rematch of last year’s WJFL semifinal round, which Kingsway won, 19-6.
TUESDAY:
No. 6 Trenton @ No. 7 Burlington Township, 6 p.m.
The winner of this game will hold an early edge in the WJFL Diamond Division race.
Gloucester Tech @ Washington Township, 5:30 p.m.
GCIT is in its first year as a program and will face a tough test on the road at Washington Township in a Royal Division matchup.
No. 4 Camden Catholic @ No. 2 Mastery Camden, 7 pm.
Mastery Camden will have a quick turnaround after it’s game at Kingsway. The Warriors will host No. 4 Camden Catholic the very next night under the lights. It’ll be the first real test for Camden Catholic. The Fighting Irish have cruised past their competition, outsourcing opponents 157-6 en route to a 3-0 start.
