STAFF REPORT
We’re headed full-swing into the final week of regular season action in the West Jersey Girls Flag Football League. Below are some games to watch for this week, as well as last week’s scores/stats and standings. The WJFL semifinals and championships will be held at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 1.
Mastery Charter of Camden (Liberty Division) and Egg Harbor Township (American) have each officially clinched their respective divisions. Kingsway narrowly defeated the main Royal Division rival Washington Township, 6-0, in the Dragons’ Senior Night game on Tuesday to inch closer to the division title.
GAMES TO WATCH:
TODAY: Cedar Creek (4-0; 3-0 WJFL National) hosts Absegami (4-1; 4-0 WJFL National) for the rights to the National division and a trip to the playoffs. The reigning WJFL runner-up, Cedar Creek is looking to retain its status as the top team in the division and is a slight favorite in this matchup.
Said Absegami coach Kimberly Becher: “Playing in the division title game is the culmination of a season’s worth of hard work, perseverance, and team unity. It’s our chance to prove we’re the best and continue to grow a program that young female athletes want to be a part of. It is also bittersweet that the game is against one of our largest district rivals.”
WEDNESDAY: Kingsway (8-1; 5-0 WJFL Royal) heads to Woodbury (4-1; 3-1 WJFL Royal) in hopes of officially securing the Royal Division. Although not mathematically clinched, the Dragons are the clear favorite to win the division and earn the right to tilt with defending WJFL champion Mastery Camden in the semifinals in two weeks. Defeating the Thundering Herd secures the division title.
