Haddon Heights girls lacrosse coach Kelly Ferrante said Thursday that the Garnets have been trying to get back on track after a little “rough patch.”
After starting the season with a 2-5 record, the Garnets are now winners in three of their last four games and have sneaked into playoff contention in the South Jersey Group 2 bracket as the No. 13 team in power-point standings with a 5-6 record.
The slow start ended on Thursday as the Garnets celebrated a successful senior night in their 14-8 victory over Cherry Hill East.
Two of their three seniors — Kylee Ferranto and Isabella Ferrante, coach Ferante’s daughter — combined for 13 goals in the triumph. Ferranto shined brightly with eight of those goals, increasing her team lead to 69 goals this season. Ferrante now has 29 goals and a team-leading 18 assists.
“It’s really exciting, and it’s come full circle,” Kelly Ferrante said. “I started lacrosse at Heights because I wanted my daughter and her friends to have a team to play on when they got to high school. Now that they’ve gone through high school and they’re going to college, it’s exciting.”
Isabella, who said she’s committed to Rowan University, reached 200 career draws in the win. Ferranto said she plans to attend New Jersey Institute of Technology to play soccer.
WHAT’S NEXT: Haddon Heights heads to Timber Creek on Monday at 4 p.m. Cherry Hill East hosts Cherry Hill West on Saturday at 2 p.m.
