SWEDESBORO — The clock was ticking.
Host Kingsway Regional High held a 2-1 lead over Clearview in the final minute of regulation and all was looking clear for a Dragons’ victory against their long-time Tri-County Conference rival.
However, Mia Borodin had other plans.
The senior tapped the ball off her foot straight into the net with less than a second to play to prevent a Kingsway victory. The game ended in a 2-2 tie after a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtime periods.
“I just stormed the net, threw my foot in the air, and the ball hit and went right in the corner,” Borodin said. “It’s always a great game against Kingsway. Conference game, it’s a nail-biter every year. So proud of the team, we have really formed a team this year. Everyone’s playing together really well, and I’m just proud of everyone.”
Kingway (1-1-1, 0-0-1 Tri-County Royal) took a 1-0 lead into the second-half courtesy of freshman Talia Griscom’s lone goal, but the lead didn’t last long. Clearview’s Emily Coyle, a senior, took an assist from Quinn Anderson and netted one for the Pioneers (2-1-1, 0-0-1 Tri-County Royal) just a minute into the second half.
Senior Cailon Burlingame added one in the 57th minute off a pass from Mya Narcisi to help the Dragons retake the lead.

The last goal of the game would be Borodin’s with a half second to go.
“She’s a senior, I know that’s important to her,” Pioneers coach Dan Matozzo said. “Kingsway’s a rivalry. You know, you get on the end of a ball and it changes the game. We didn’t quit the whole game, that’s what’s important. We were down, tied it, down, and then (less than) 10 seconds. No one ever wants to give up a goal (that late).”
Said Kingsway coach Bill Alvaro, “it was a good, hard-fought game. Obviously, anytime Kingsway and Clearview — or anyone in our conference plays — it’s going to be a hard-fought game. That’s what it was. We had to make sure we did a better job defensively at the end of the game, but we didn’t match their intensity in the beginning of the second half. They took advantage of it. We gave them the opportunity (to score).”
WHAT’S NEXT: Clearview hosts Williamstown on Monday at 4 p.m. Kingsway travels to Triton on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
