The Absegami football team found itself down by scores of 14-0 and 20-7 in the first half of if its season-opening, 31-26 win at Ocean City. The Braves looked out of rhythm — their lone bright spot being a catch and then long run by Vinnie Nelson for a score. However, they righted the ship in the second quarter. The Braves ran a total of 14 offensive plays in the first quarter, but they opened the second quarter with a 12-play scoring drive to get back in the game. Absegami quarterback Andrew Marcucci, a sophomore, ran for 23 yards during the drive and threw for another 40 yards, including 23 on an outstanding catch by Chris Dolan. Marcucci then punched it in from the 1-yard line to pull the Braves to within 20-14. The drive not only brought the Braves closer on the scoreboard, but it removed any doubt that the offense could march down the field with a sophomore at the helm.
