Glory Days Magazine publisher Dave O’Sullivan recently caught up with Absegami senior goalkeeper Drew Roesch for the magazine’s Boys Soccer Update page. Sully: Why do you wear two different colored gloves? Roesch: That’s just the brand, the type of gloves that Puma had. I saw a few goalies wearing it in the World Cup and I liked the colors. I try to wear pink a lot of times to help support breast cancer awareness. Sully: What did you think of some of the shootouts in the World Cup? Roesch: It was intense. I remember being at a baseball tournament and watching some of them in the car. It’s one of the most intense moments in sports.
Drew Roesch is a senior at Absegami and has helped the Braves post an 8-5-1 record so far this season. (Glory Days Magazine photo/Dave O’Sullivan) Sully: How nervous would you be if you had to stop a penalty shot with 80,000 people watching? Roesch: I’m nervous trying to stop a penalty shot with 20 people watching, so that would be a whole different story. It’s a tough position to be in as a goalie. Sully: You’re also a baseball player. What makes for better movies, baseball or soccer? Roesch: I think baseball. I haven’t seen too many soccer movies. Sully: You’ve never seen “Victory”? Roesch: No, I haven’t. Sully: Great movie. You’ve gotta watch it. It has Sylvester Stallone in it. Sully: What’s your favorite music to play before a soccer game to get you pumped? Roesch: Usually the cliche pump-up music, like Eminem. I have a playlist. Sully: So you must not like when those ‘Gami baseball players play all the country music before games then? Roesch: I make sure we don’t have too much country before the games. Sully: I went to high school in the 1980s before cell phones and the internet. Could you imagine doing that? Roesch: I can imagine that, I just probably couldn’t handle it. [adsense]
