High school swimming might be a little too easy for Ocean City junior Amanda Nunan. At least, the talented freestyler makes it seem that way. Nunan, who already has a pair of state individual championships under her belt in what is quickly becoming one of the best swimming careers all-time in the Cape-Atlantic League, had her talents on display again on Saturday at the Hackney High School Girls Invitational Swim Meet at Atlantic City High School.

(Glory Days Magazine photo/Dave O’Sullivan) The event features 11 events and more than 350 female swimmers from the league, and all Nunan did was break two meet records as the Red Raiders captured seven victories in the 11 events. Nunan clocked in at 2:04.45 to take home first place in the 200 freestyle, breaking former Mainland standout Joanna Thomas’ record by nearly a full second. She then took home gold in the 400 freestyle by a whopping nine-plus seconds, posting a time of 4:20.87. That broke the record she set at last year’s Hackneys. For her efforts, Nunan is the Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week for the first week of January. Nunan has been the Press of Atlantic City’s Swimmer of the Year the past two years, and was the Courier-Post’s Swimmer of the Year as a freshman. As a freshman, she won the state individual title in the 500-yard freestyle, becoming Ocean City’s first individual state champion. She went on to defend her title last march in that event. She’s also helped lead Ocean City to an undefeated regular-season mark so far this year, as the Red Raiders have dominated in their first five meets.
