In order to put together the best season in school history, a team needs to have outstanding senior leaders. Miranda Cincotti certainly qualifies.
The Egg Harbor Township senior third baseman played an integral part in leading the Eagles to a 24-1 record this season — a campaign that featured a Cape-Atlantic League American Conference title, a South Jersey Group 4 championship, an appearance in the overall Group 4 state championship game, and a 24-game winning streak.
For her efforts, Cincotti is our Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week.
Cincotti came up with her biggest hit of the season in the Eagles’ 3-2, extra-innings win over East Brunswick in the Group 4 semifinals when she laced a single up the middle to score Nicole Wisser with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. She went 2-for-4 in that game, including a double.
“It feels amazing, but it was such a total team effort. I’m not going to put myself above anyone,” Cincotti said after that game. “We just have a team of really consistent players, and it’s awesome knowing we can get on base in so many different ways. We can beat out infield grounders and we can hit balls hard into the outfield.”
Cincotti also was one of the best defensive third basemen in the CAL this season, and flashed the leather throughout the state playoffs. She made several big plays in EHT’s epic 7-6, 13-inning win over Eastern Regional in the sectional championship game. Cincotti also was one of the vocal leaders for a team that not only put together its best record in school history, but also finished No. 3 in the state, according to nj.com. The only other teams to finish with a higher ranking were Watchung Hills, which beat EHT for the Group 4 title, and Immaculate Heart, which went 31-1 and finished as Non-Public A state champs.
