By DAVE O’SULLIVAN Publisher BUENA VISTA TWP. — It didn’t take long for the St. Augustine Prep football team to prove it was in command against Ocean City on Thursday night. After two drives, the undefeated Hermits had a 14-0 lead and were well on their way to making quick work of the Red Raiders in a game that was moved up a day because of heavy rains forcasted for Friday night. Senior quarterback Jose Tabora lit it up, going 13-16 for 293 yards and a Cape-Atlantic League record-tying five touchdown passes as the Hermits built up a 34-0 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a 59-6 CAL American win. Three other quarterbacks in league history have passed for as many as five touchdowns in a game, according to league historian Tom Williams. “He put on a clinic today,” senior linebacker Jim Brady said of Tabora. “There wasn’t a guy he didn’t throw the ball to and he looked really sharp. Everyone on the offense played extremely well. It was nice.” St. Augustine Prep quarterback Jose Tabora threw for a league-record-tying five touchdown passes against Ocean City on Thursday night. This week we started out strong and just kept it rolling,” Tabora said. “The goal is to get better every week that we are on the field, and we’ve been meeting that goal every week. So, next week hopefully we are better than we are right now, and we just have to keep that momentum rolling into the playoffs.” Hard to imagine St. Augustine (4-0) playing better than it did against Ocean City (0-4). The Hermits scored on their first five drives in the first quarter, then added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to build the lead to 53-0 by halftime. Tabora capped off the opening drive of the game with a 6-yard touchdown run, then connected with Kyle Dobbins on a 26-yard catch-and-run up the middle for a 14-0 lead. Dobbins, one of the leading rushers in the league, finished with 108 yards receiving as coach Mark Reardon decided to switch things up a little bit and allow Tabora to attack the Red Raiders’ secondary.   Ocean City tight end Andrew Baumgardner gets upended by a couple of St. Augustine Prep defenders during Thursday night's action. We’re starting to move forward toward the playoffs and we feel like we are going to be a very good team this year.” Dan Pavlik, Dobbins and Justin Skinner each caught first-quarter touchdown passes from Tabora, and in the second quarter Xavier File hauled in a 22-yard touchdown reception before scoring runs by Ezekiel Ennis and True Robinson closed out the first half. St. Augustine, along with Tabora’s passing numbers, also put up 250 rushing yards. Robinson finished with a team-high 73 yards on nine carries while Ennis added 53 yards on just four carries. Dan Henderson, who rushed for 49 yards to lead Ocean City, finally got the Red Raiders on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Sean Mulhern picked off a pass early in the fourth quarter and returned it 48 yards to close out the scoring for the Hermits.
