Location/phone: 6216 Black Horse Pike, EHT/609-241-8512 Hours of operation: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; 24/7 emergency service Known for: Five generations of dependability; fully licensed and insured; ‘A’ rating with BBB and Angie’s List. Owner Chris Davis Sr. on the origin of the business: My grandfather was doing this in 1948 and it’s been a family business. My father was in it, my grandfather was in it, we’re in it, my kids are in it. My kids will be the fifth generation, so we’ve been doing this a long time. It’s all we talk about. On what he likes best about the business: I like everything. It’s all I know. There’s not really one thing I like better than the other. I like the masonry end of it, I like the chimney part of it. It’s all I know. On balancing family and business: It’s easy, it really is. Everybody gets along great. Everyone knows their own roles. Davis Brothers Chimney Sweet has been family run for generations. The crew includes, from left, Chris Jr. , John, Chris Sr., Denise, Mykul, and Jeannie Davis. When you are sitting home late at night and if somebody’s heater or chimney fails, if you get a call you have to go. The wives kind of get upset with their spouses. But sometimes the only way to get somebody’s heat on is to clear the chimney and it doesn’t matter what time it is, you have to go do it. I’ve gone out on Christmas day and cleared somebody’s chimney. On what is most rewarding: We don’t get rich in this business. It’s hard, but it’s a good feeling at the end of the day. If you do a job and it’s all you know, you get used to it, and you love it. On the reason Davis Brothers likes supporting high school sports: I like supporting the kids because it’s good for them. Every kid is different in their own way. Like this kid Ahmir (Mitchell, a Cedar Creek football player) who is going to play at Michigan, it’s great to see a kid shine like that. You love to see a kid grow up through pee wee, JV, varsity, and do well for themselves. Besides that, I think it teaches the kids good values, too. On why someone should select Davis Brothers: It’s not really a sales pitch, it’s the truth. If you call us, we always show up. There’s always somebody answering the phone. We stand behind everything we do. On Friday night lights: I love watching my son, A.J. (a senior at Oakcrest). I love the whole atmosphere. When you have a kid involved, there’s nothing like it.
