I grew up in Margate and my brothers and I worked at a place there. It was a good business to get into. I love it now because it gives me the opportunity to coach (baseball at Cumberland County College). On why he supports high school sports: I’ve always had a connection to Holy Spirit. I graduated from there and we are right up the street. I have two daughters who rowed for Holy Spirit, so we have an athletic family. I believe high school sports instills discipline and makes better students, I really believe that. We have a couple of former Holy Spirit baseball players who work here. Most of the staff was an athlete at some point. Vic's Subs owner Mike Freund, left, and employee Paul Gregory prepare to open the shop during a recent Friday. (Glory Days Magazine photo/Dave O’Sullivan) On the toughest thing about running a food service business: Like with every other job, and this relates to sports, too, it’s organization. You have to be organized and have good time management, particularly in this business because it comes in rushes. On the most satisfying thing about his business: Being prepared and doing the job well. Being prepared when the rush comes, and making it as easy and comfortable as possible for everyone who works here when it does come. I like being busy and being able to survive the rush when it comes. On why customers should choose Vic’s Subs: I don’t think there is any doubt that we make the best sub in the area. Everything is fresh, we cut our stuff fresh every day. We cut our own steak, we use Boar’s Head products. We are prepared, too. Nobody has to wait. When somebody comes in here, the longest they are going to wait is 10 or 15 minutes. Everybody is usually out of here in less than 10 minutes. On his most memorable sports moment: It has to be when the Phillies won the World Series (in 2008). It was great to watch, it was great to be invested in, and it was great for business. Sports drives this business.
