Absegami senior David Hood was one of the best running backs in the Cape-Atlantic League this season, rushing for more than 1,300 yards for the Braves. Glory Days Magazine publisher Dave O’Sullivan caught up with the 17-year-old Galloway Township resident and Temple University recruit a few weeks ago during a phone interview to talk about Hood’s high school football career, his favorite rap artist and the million-dollar car he wouldn’t mind taking a spin in. Sully: What were your expectations coming into this season? Hood: To rush for 2,000 yards, win a championship and just finishing my career strong before heading off to Temple. Sully: How much did those Rob Fishbein beach workouts help you out in the preseason? Hood: They helped me out a lot keeping my endurance up to be able to last longer during a game. It was a big help. I wanted to give it all or nothing. Sully: How tough was it knowing that in every game the entire defense was going to be keying on you and looking to stop you? Hood: I tried not to think about it. I just went into every game trying to live up to my full potential. Sully: What does your body feel like on a Saturday morning after 30 carries on a Friday night? Hood: Some days it can feel rough and some days it’s just regular. It just depends on who we were playing and how many times I got tackled. Sully: Who was the toughest team you played this year? Hood: I’d have to say Millville. They had VERY strong defensive linemen. I think they have the strongest linemen in the league right now. Sully: What was it like finishing up your career with a win over Oakcrest? Hood: It felt really good, gave me some closure to end up with a win. Sully: What do you think looking back on your high school career now that you’ve had a few weeks to take it all in? Hood: I feel like I did what I was supposed to do. It’s been a wonderful high school career. Sully: What are some of the things you like to do when you’re not playing football? Hood: I like to rap. I like to shop and buy new sneakers. And I like to drive. Sully: Who is your favorite rapper? Hood: Meek Mill. Sully: Who is the best old-school rapper? Hood: Biggie Smalls. Sully: Over Tupac? Hood: Yup. Sully: I don’t know about that. I’m a big Tupac fan. Hood: Nah, man. Biggie. Sully: If you could have any car in the world, which one would you pick? Hood: A Bugatti. Sully: A what? Hood: A Bugatti. You don’t know what that is? It’s like a million-dollar car. Sully: I’ll have to look that up. Hood: Yeah, man, look it up. That’s like one of the richest cars, for real! Sully: What do you think is the best football movie of all time? Hood: Friday Night Lights. Sully: What do you think it will be like next spring when you graduate high school? Hood: I think it will be mixed emotions because a part of me wants to go to Temple but another part of me wants to stay at ‘Gami. Sully: What’s been your best memory at ‘Gami in terms of football? Hood: Sophomore year, my first touchdown of my varsity career. I scored on a 73-yard run against EHT in the first quarter. It felt good because I was the first person to score (that season), and as a first-year player. Sully: What do you think the biggest difference will be between high school and college? Hood: (In college) it’s all on you. The teachers aren’t going to be on you about every little thing. You have to grow up and be a man about every situation. Sully: Do you think you’re ready for that? Hood: Yeah, I’m ready. Contact Dave O’Sullivan: sully@acglorydays.com; on Twitter @GDsullysays
