The Glory Days Magazine bowling team came into the latest installment of the Kingpin-Glory Days Bowling Challenge brimming with confidence after posting a spotless 4-0 record in its first four matchups. After a couple of frames in the first game, however, it became clear that the EHT bowling team would have little trouble defending its home turf. The EHT bowlers snapped Glory Days’ winning streak with authority, as Jason Pesce, Stephen Masi and Matt Stephens led a strong Eagles contingent that put the first blemish on Glory Days’ record on Monday night at the Kingpin Bowling & Entertainment Center in Egg Harbor Township. In the two-game series, Pesce came out on top, rolling a 380 that featured eight strikes. He actually trailed Masi by one pin, 176-175, after the first game, but turned in the best performance of the night in the second game by notching a 205 that included three straight strikes in the seventh through ninth frames. Masi finished second with a two-game score of 342, while Stephens was third with a 309. Director of Advertising Bill Lynskey, normally the star of the Glory Days staff team, had a tough night, finishing with just a 151. He did have two strikes in his final four frames however, but his struggles in the first game were too much to overcome. Publisher Dave “Sully” O’Sullivan turned in a respectable 261, and as usual was pretty consistent. He notched a 129 in the first game and a 132 in the second, including one strike in each game. The Egg Harbor Township bowling team that took down Glory Days' staff squad included Jason Pesce, Matt Stephens, Stephen Masi, Tyler Hodson, Huy Nguyen, Peter Tran, Jenny Hoang and Stacey Phung. They are some of the best bowlers in South Jersey,” Sully said. “We went in with confidence, but that probably was an illusion we were trying to get ourselves to believe. Those kids are talented, especially Jason, he was on his game tonight. And Matt Stephens is a kid who is going to be bowling at nationals this summer. We knew we had to bowl our best to even have a chance. But you have to give those kids credit, they are always up for a challenge, and they humbled us, no doubt.” Tyler Hodson secured fourth place overall with a 284 that included three strikes in his second game. He finished his night with five total strikes. Right behind Tyler was Huy Nguyen, who racked up a 276. Nguyen was impressive at the end of his first game, scoring 30 points in the final frame with three straight strikes to take his score from 125 to 155. He finished second in total strikes on the night with seven. Jenny Hoang and Stacey Phung turned in solid performances, as Jenny finished with a 237 and Stacey a 185. Jenny scored a pair of strikes in each game, while Stacey had one in her first game and picked up three spares in her second game. “I was impressed with the girls, they are really coming along as bowlers and they each have smooth deliveries that lead to consistent scores,” Sully said. “They showed why Egg Harbor Township has one of the best girls bowling teams in South Jersey.” Peter Tran was a late addition to the EHT lineup in the absence of Qui Pesce, and he did well, rolling an even 200 that featured a strike and five spares in his second game. “I’m really glad Kingpin allows us to compete against these high school sports teams. It’s such a great facility, and the kids really enjoy competing against our staff team,” Sully added. “Bowling is definitely a fun sport, and Bill and I are talking about taking our game to the next level, getting team shirts made up and getting our own bowling balls. It really is one of those sports where you play it once and you want to keep coming back for more to try to improve your game. And if we are going to compete against sports teams as talented as the EHT bowlers, we’re certainly going to have to improve our game.”
