From staff reports Members of “Raider Nation”, Ocean City’s student fan section during basketball games, had a strong finish Monday night in the Kingpin-Glory Days Bowling Challenge, but it wasn’t enough to upend the still undefeated Glory Days staff team. Glory Days improved to 4-0 as Director of Advertising Bill Lynskey led the way with a blistering 178 in the second of two games to finish with a series-high score of 321. Publisher Dave “Sully” O’Sullivan had a bit of an off night, but used consistency to finish second among the 10 competitors. Sully rolled a 114 in the first game and followed that up with a 119 in the second to post a series score of 233. “I never really got into rhythm, couldn’t string together good frames, particularly in the first game. I failed to pick up the spare in seven of the 10 frames,” Sully said. “Luckily for the Glory Days team, Lynskey was on fire. But I was impressed with Raider Nation. There were some good athletes among the team members, and even though some of them haven’t bowled in years, they picked it up pretty quickly. Lexie Mealey had a pair of strikes in the first game, and John Oves finished with a flurry, ripping off four straight strikes to finish out his second game.” Members of "Raider Nation", Ocean City's student fan section for basketball games, included (from left) Lexie Mealey, Sammi Bornhardt, Julia Noll, John Oves, Ally Zelinski, Jeff Hoffner, Nicholl Fenton and Grace Sacco. He had the second-highest single-game score, rolling a 142 in the second game to finish with a two-game series score of 185. It was too little, too late to catch Sully, but Oves did manage to go from last-to-first among the Raider Nation bowlers with his amazing finish in the second game. Sammi Bornhardt was steady all night and finished second among Raider Nation bowlers, and fourth overall among the 10 competitors. She featured a strike in each game and checked in with a final score of 179. Nicholl Fenton, one of the stars of the Ocean City girls lacrosse team, was hot on Bornhardt’s heels and finished with a 175. Ally Zelinski and Grace Sacco, who is the star point guard for the Red Raiders’ girls basketball team, battled it out with Zelinski edging Sacco 165-159 in the two-game series. Jeff Hoffner checked in at 161, making up for a tough opening game with a solid second game. He rolled a pair of strikes in his final seven frames. Julia Noll also improved from the first to the second game, checking in at 113. Lynskey took home top honors for single-game high score (178), series high score (321) and most strikes (8). Oves was second in strikes with four, while Sacco, Mealey, Fenton and Bornhardt all finished with a pair of strikes. “Oves’ finish was really impressive. He gained 99 pins in his second game, and Bornhardt was really steady, rolling a 93 in the first game and an 86 in the second,” Sully said. “Overall, I think this group represented Raider Nation pretty well.” [adsense]
