By NICK KOSKO Correspondent As evening fell upon Absegami High School, the lights went out and the spotlights came on to showcase the District 32 finalists. The bouts lived up to the hype, especially in the 120- and 132-pound weight classes. St. Augustine Prep’s Reid White and Callisto Kraus, of Oakcrest, pulled out buzzer-beating wins that highlighted an entertaining night of wrestling. Pat D’Arcy, a senior from Holy Spirit, earned his fourth straight District 32 title and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler.  D’Arcy, who has finished second in the state to Bergen Catholic’s Nick Suriano the past two years, defeated Andrew Solomon of Cedar Creek for the second time this season, 10-1, at 126 pounds. St. Augustine Prep took home the team title by a landslide, placing 10 wrestlers in the finals and racking up 261.5 points. Egg Harbor Township (137) and Ocean City (113) finished second and third, respectively. Head coach Clayton Smith of Mainland Regional earned District 32 Coach of the Year honors as his Mustangs set a new school record for wins in a season. The Mustangs also finished fourth in the team standings with 104 points a year after scoring just 33. Kraus, a sophomore, missed about half of the season with an injury but came in with a 14-1 record and established himself as the best 132-pounder on Saturday night by defeating Colin Donahue, of St. Augustine Prep, 6-3. Reid White of St. Augustine Prep celebrates his 6-5 win over Lower Cape May's Eric Pruszinski during the 120-pound championship. Reid White of St. Augustine Prep celebrates his 6-5 win over Lower Cape May’s Eric Pruszinski during the 120-pound championship. “That was really close. His hips kind of dropped and I just spun and ended up on top. I was really hoping the refs were going to give me the points and then they did, so it ended pretty well,” White said. At 113 pounds, Absegami’s James Giegold received points from a stalling call, a caution warning, and an escape to win 3-1 in a wild third period over Holy Spirit’s Tim Fitzpatrick. At 152, Jarred Hodges, an Egg Harbor Township resident who is a senior at St. Augustine Prep, won his first District 32 title with a 5-2 decision over Ocean City’s Vinny Levin. Two more St. Augustine Prep wrestlers won close matches at 182 and 195. Jose Tabora, a district champ at 170 last year, claimed the title at 182 with a 4-3 win over Ocean City’s Jeremy Grund, and Ryan Lynd scored a 6-5 win at 195 over Mainland Regional’s Kolin Roberts. Lynd managed a late takedown with five seconds remaining to defeat Roberts, a No. 5 seed who had upset two of the top four seeds to earn a berth in the championship. St. Augustine had four other champions, including Steven Schwab (106), Dillon Taylor (145), James Brady (220) and Thomas Lynd (285). The Region 8 tournament will be held next weekend at EHT, with the top three finishers in each weight class advancing to Boardwalk Hall.
