According to headstrong.org, Colleluori was a three-sport star at Ridley High School in suburban Philadelphia before being diagnosed with large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a blood cancer, toward the end of his freshman lacrosse season at Hofstra University in April 2005. Nicholas passed away Nov. 26, 2006, but his family has kept up the mission of the foundation for the past seven-plus years. Also Friday, Egg Harbor Township will be hosting Ocean City at 7 p.m. in the “Girls Lacrosse vs. Cancer” game on the turf field at EHT. The freshman teams will square off at 4 p.m. in Ocean City and the varsity game will be preceded by the junior varsity at 5:15 p.m. at EHT. Players will be dedicating their performances to someone they know who is suffering from cancer, and after the game there will be a “meet the players and coaches” session for younger lacrosse players in the area. Eagles coach Jonelle Scardino said the teams will be collecting donations during the game and she encourages fans to wear purple to support the effort against cancer. [adsense]
