Becca Roesch is making the Absegami High School softball record book an autobiography.
The Braves senior is wrapping up a stellar career with an amazing season, setting records on what seems like a daily basis. The Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week led the Braves to four straight wins this week to extend the team’s winning streak to nine.
On May 15, the shortstop blasted a solo home run in a 4-3 win over Ocean City to grab the overall home run record at 14. It was her 10th of the season, which tied the school’s season mark.
Roesch’s big week also included a double in the Braves’ 12-11 win over Mainland on May 12, two hits, including a home run and 3 RBIs on May 10 in a 10-1 victory over Lower Cape May, and two more hits, including a double and two RBIs, in a 10-0 win over Atlantic City on May 9.
“Individually, I’m having a great season. I don’t even know what to say. Coming into the season, I thought I may break one or two records, but right now I have six. I have amazed myself this year so far,” said Roesch, who could end the year with 11 records.
She added: “Coming into senior season, I felt more confident in my swing. My off-season workout routine has clearly done something good for me. It finally clicked for me. I’m smarter all-around as an athlete.”
The Braves’ star also has the school’s career hits, runs, and RBIs records. She is also closing in on several season records as well.
“Consistently, she has been my best player I have had in my 21 years. I would find it hard to believe she is not the best player in the program’s history,” Absegami coach Pat Esemplare said. “I’m hoping she can get all-state recognition. She is all-conference again, should be all-South Jersey and I’m hoping for at least first-team Group 3 all-state. She deserves it.”
