Atlantic City High School basketball coach Gene Allen has been waiting all season for the kind of performance that senior forward Kevin Allen put on during the Vikings’ 54-46 win over Middle Township on Saturday at the Shoot Down Cancer Classic at St. Augustine Prep. Kevin Allen poured in 24 points, including 16 in the second half, grabbed six rebounds and added five steals as the Vikings improved to 12-4. For his efforts, Kevin Allen is the Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week for Glory Days Magazine. He’s a three-year varsity player, and this is the time of year when you see most seniors starting to look at the end of their high school careers and they want to turn it up and play with a lot more intensity,” coach Allen said after the game. “That was an example of what a senior who really wants to win plays like.” Kevin Allen didn’t want to talk much about his performance after the game, preferring to give credit to his teammates for playing outstanding defense against the Panthers. Allen leads the Vikings in scoring at just more than 11 points per game, a testament to the team’s selflessness and commitment to defense. Against Middle Township, Kevin was the only player in double figures in points, but eight different players scored. Allen and the Vikings sit atop the standings in the Cape-Atlantic League’s American Conference, a half game ahead of rival Holy Spirit. Both those teams figure to get high seeds for the upcoming CAL tournament.
