A few years ago, Noel Styer was a standout swimmer at Ocean City. She’s since moved on to become a swimmer at the University of Tampa, but the Styer name continues to make headlines.
Younger sister Ryann may be just as good, if not better, than her older sibling, and has been leading the Red Raiders — last year’s state champion — to another impressive season.
This past Saturday, at the South Jersey Interscholastic Coaches Association invitational at Gloucester County Institute of Technology, this week’s Bunting Family Pharmacy Athlete of the Week led an impressive performance by the Red Raiders. Ocean City won the B Division (small schools) championship for the sixth consecutive year, and Styer played a big role in that victory.
Styler won the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.47 seconds, and also broke a 15-year-old meet record in the 100 freestyle by clocking in at 52.41. Teammates Aleva Parker and Amanda Nunan also had big days, with Parker winning the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, and Nunan capturing first place in the 200 freestyle event.
It’s been a great season so far for Styer and her teammates. The Red Raiders have won seven of their eight meets, scoring more than 100 points in six of those wins, with their only loss coming to Bishop Eustace on Jan. 12.
