By DAVE O’SULLIVAN Publisher EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — For three-and-a-half innings on Thursday, Absegami and host Egg Harbor Township were locked in a scoreless tie. Then the Eagles’ bats came alive, and the game was over an inning-and-a-half later. Egg Harbor Township threatened in the bottom of the second inning, but Braves pitcher Bobbi Beck was able to work out of a jam, stranding runners at second and third. But a leadoff single by Tori Szrom in the fourth started a four-run rally, and the Eagles tacked on seven more in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule, an 11-0 win by the Eagles. Emily MacNeil and Egg Harbor Township rallied for 11 runs in the final two innings on Thursday to break open a scoreless game against Absegami in an 11-0 win by the Eagles. Courtesy runner Ella Glenn, in for Korte, swiped second and after an infield pop-up, Nicole Wisser ripped a 2-run double down the right-field line to give EHT a 2-0 lead. Miranda Cincotti followed with an RBI on a fielder’s choice and Sam Barone added an infield single that scored a run to push the lead to 4-0 before Beck got Emily MacNeil to line out to second. Szrom, who finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits in five innings, worked a scoreless top of the fifth before the Eagles’ offensive barrage in the bottom of the frame. We just got back from Florida, and sunshine always makes you feel good. We worked hard to get there, and they played hard and worked hard to get there. Our goal for the trip was to build some relationships and camaraderie. We have a mission, a purpose this year. We always do, but this year I think we have a little bit more of a vision. We have a young team and we’re excited about the season,” said EHT coach Mary Dunlap. “Our offense has been good. We came up short yesterday against Millville, but Millville always has a good team, and so does Absegami. I have a lot of respect for the coaches in our league. They’ve been around for a long time and they know how to produce wins. It’s always a dogfight. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, you can never take anybody lightly and I have a lot of respect for those teams. We all want to win.” Cincotti’s two-run single up the middle pushed the lead to 7-0 and highlighted EHT’s 7-run fifth inning, and Marissa Varela added an RBI infield single. With the win, EHT improved to 5-2, while Absegami, which got off to a hot start, slipped to 3-5. Eagles senior right-fielder Sam Barone said her team is excited about what the next two months might have to offer. EHT is young, with only two seniors on varsity, but has some very talented players. “I think this year is going to be our best team,” Barone said. “We definitely have the best team we’ve had in the four years that I’ve been here. I see us going far this year.” Contact Dave O’Sullivan: sully@acglorydays.com; on Twitter @GDsullysays  [adsense]
