From staff reports There was a playoff atmosphere near the end of the first installment of the King Pin-Glory Days Bowling Challenge on Monday night, as the top spot came down to the final roll at the King Pin Bowling & Entertainment Center in Egg Harbor Township. Egg Harbor Township assistant baseball coach Sean Coyle was sitting at 447 pins through three games, and Bill, of Glory Days Magazine, had two pins still standing with his final roll coming up. If he missed the mark, there would be a tie for the night’s champion. Knock down just one pin, and he would take the title. Bill curved his ball down the right side of the lane as the seven other competitors looked on in anticipation.

Rounding out the top four of the night were Sully, of Glory Days, checking in with a score of 385, and EHT senior Brady Kessler with a 382 series. Eagles head coach Bryan Carmichael checked in with a 379. Four seniors on the EHT baseball team also competed, with Kessler taking top honors among the students with his 382 series. Consistency was the key for Kessler, as he rolled a 133 in the first game, a 130 in the second and a 119 in the third. Jon Laboy had a strong first game and finished with a 294 series, while Ryan Baruffi used a strong finish to place second among the student competitors with a 302 series. Jeff Maul Jr. struggled in the second of the three games, but finished well to notch a 253. Each month, in conjunction with King Pin Bowling & Entertainment Center, Glory Days Magazine’s staff will be challenging an area high school sports team to a bowling match. Monday night was the first installment, and by all accounts it was an exciting start.

Sully dominated in Game 1, rolling a career-best 172. He started out strong, ripping off a strike on his first roll of the night. The game included four strikes, but, unfortunately, a dismal showing in the second game took Sully out of the running for the top spot. Sully found himself in third place after the second game, as Bill and coach Coyle started heating up. The best game of the night, a 182 by Bill in the second game, put him in first place at 326. Kessler was still in the mix after Game 2 with a score of 263, but Bill and coach Coyle couldn’t be stopped down the stretch. Coach Coyle actually rolled the best score in the third game, a 147, but Bill was able to hold him off with a 122. Laboy led the EHT baseball players with seven strikes in three games, and the four players combined to roll 20 strikes in the series. The overall strikes lead saw a tie between Bill and coach Carmichael, who each finished with eight in the 3-game series.
