By DAVE O’SULLIVAN Publisher PLEASANTVILLE — Connor Laverty is one of the leading scorers in the Cape-Atlantic League, and top scorers know they get a good portion of their points from the free-throw line. So with host Pleasantville nipping at the heels of Ocean City in the final minute, the junior swingman knew his Red Raiders had to hit their foul shots to escape with a win. Laverty and Luciano Lubrano combined to go 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 33 seconds as the Red Raiders hung on to beat the Greyhounds 68-60 on Friday night to move closer to the .500 mark. “I had to step up. We were down in that first half, but we came back in the second half, hit our foul shots,” Laverty said. “You’d be surprised how many points you can get from the foul line.” Laverty tries to get around the defense of the Greyhounds' Phil Polanco. We’ve been practicing all week for it, and we had Bridgeton on Wednesday and they play a similar style,” Lubrano said. “We just had to dig deep. We needed a win, bad.” Pleasantville’s raucous crowd also made things difficult on Ocean City. Greyhounds fans bring the noise at their home gym. “We had to come together and play hard,” Lubrano said. “It was tough, but you just have to play through it.” Contact Dave O’Sullivan: sully@acglorydays.com; on Twitter @GDsullysays [adsense]
